Sunday Soul Santé

After visiting the Second To None flea market  I was desperate to discover more markets and explore Bangalore’s arts and crafts scene.

It didn’t take long before I found another event to drag Alex along to and this time it was Sunday Soul Santé bazaar, an all day event that took place in the palace grounds.  There was music, fashion shows, stalls showcasing work buy local artisans and (my favourite) local hand-made jewellery and accessories.  There was a marquee bursting with stalls selling food from around the world, I love Mexican food so made a bee line for Chinta (delicious!)  To top it off there were cocktails!  What better way to spend a lazy Sunday?

A Flea Market That's Second To None

So a few weeks back I mentioned that I wasn’t too sure about where my blog was going and was worrying that it was getting a bit too general. I talked about how I originally set out to create a place where people could get simple style advice on working the trends, developing their style and making the most of their wardrobe, instead of spending buckets of money on far too many clothes that are never worn.  But since moving to India I’ve been so inspired and my passion for pattern, photography and travel have been making an appearance on the blog too. I had some lovely comments and feedback in response to my post, telling me not to worry about it, take the blog in a direction that’s natural to me and just blog about what I’d like to read.  So that’s exactly I’m going to do from now on :)

This post is about one of my favourite past times…rummaging around in flea markets and vintage fairs.  Back in Bristol I missed so many flea markets thanks to weekends spent sifting though clients wardrobes or taking them shopping.  However, with a little more time on my hands over here, I’m able to indulge my passion for finding unique, handmade, or second hand items to add to my collection.  The thought of going to a flea market in the UK excites me, but one in India…that’s even more exciting! 

Before we moved here I spent hours online looking for Bangalore blogs to follow, I figured they’d be the best place to find out about my new home and the events going on, and I wasn’t wrong.  My two favourite bloggers are Ruhi from http://www.republicofchic.in/ and Smrithi from  http://www.vintage-obsession.com/. I can’t wait to read their new posts and fill my diary with new places to visit and things I just have to do, their blogs are tons better than any guide book! Oh, and Ruhi sells the most amazing jewellery too!  Anyway, that’s enough blog lovin for now (but you must go over and check them out after this) I’ll get back to the flea markets!

Within the first couple of weeks of being here it was my birthday so I had the perfect excuse to drag Alex along to Second To None flea market an event and initiative designed to encourage and inspire people to see un-wanted items in a different light, to see the things we'd normally throw away as the perfect material for making pretty things and functional items...this market showcased up-cycling and recycling to perfection.  It was so inspiring and I left I left with a few new things (of course!) and a heap of ideas to customise my own things.








I wore my maxi skirt and floated around the market in layers of loose fabric, it was perfect in the heat and so comfortable. 


I know that was a really picture heavy post, but I just had to show you everything!  I went to another flea market a couple of weeks ago, so will post about that soon.  Until then, have a lovely weekend! xx

Bath Vintage and Flea Market

It's taken me nearly a week to upload the photo to this post, I nearly gave up but thought I'd give it one more go...it's worked!  So almost a week late, here's another outfit post.

I’ve missed too many vintage fairs in Bath this year, so on Sunday I made sure I was around for the Bath Vintage and Flea Market. I braced the chilly wind in my super warm fur coat and spent a few hours scouring the stalls for the perfect Christmas presents. It was such a good fair that I might just pop down to the Bristol one next weekend.

If you were lucky enough to be by the Bristol Docks on Tuesday 15th June, you may have come across a ‘gaggle’ of around 30 photographers (not sure there is a group name for us) plus 8 models, 4 makeup artists and loads of suppliers as we all descended on The Harmony II – the amazing mega yacht venue in Bristol’s floating harbour that was our base for the day. To say we stood out is a bit of an understatement!

This get together was organised by The Photography Parlour (http://www.thephotographyparlour.com/) and more importantly the founder Rosie Parsons. The Photography Parlour is a new website devoted to aspiring photographers, offering advice and ‘guidance from seasoned and celebrated pros who want to make sure the mistakes they’ve already made don’t kill the next generation of talent’

The photographers on the day ranged from complete newcomers to professional photographers - sharing of knowledge and inspiration were the aims of the day.

Myself and fellow photographers were split into groups throughout the day and set off around the picturesque docks with a model in a style of dress, from vintage to wedding dresses.

A wonderful hotchpotch of sparkle, pattern and chatter!

I just love rummaging around in antiques shops and vintage fairs, so I was over the moon when I spotted a large vintage fair in Bristol last weekend. I spent almost 3 hours there having a good look at everything. I also made a few purchases.
Shopping vintage is always a great way to pick up something individual, something that no one else has. A fab vintage pair of boots for example, will make a great addition to your wardrobe. Fashions come round again and again ensuring you’ll pick up something that’s on-trend yet unique and yummy, if you know what to look for.

This season ‘forever pieces’ is a big trend. Invest in items which transcend the seasons, and work with lots of outfits such as a jacket. Where better to find that than at a vintage shop or fair?

Before you hit the stalls it’s a good idea to make a list of some of the things you might be looking for; it’s so easy to be overwhelmed by the wonderful hotchpotch of sparkle, pattern and chatter! For example; I went along hoping to find a little snakeskin hand bag for next season, some jewellery that would also work in the summer, but that looked a bit individual and, of course, I was keeping my eye out for items that might work for some of my clients!
